Dipyridamole is an odorless yellow crystalline powder, having a bitter taste. It is soluble in dilute acids, methanol and chloroform, and practically insoluble in water.

Indications:

This medication is used to prevent stroke. Dipyridamole tablets are also indicated as an adjunct to coumarin anticoagulants in the prevention of postoperative thromboembolic complications of cardiac valve replacement.

How to take:

This medication is taken by mouth, generally one tablet twice a day, in the morning and in the evening, or as directed by your doctor. Swallow the tablet as whole. Do not crush or chew. Take this medication with a full glass of water unless your doctor directs you otherwise. Do not lie down for at least 30 minutes after taking this drug. Precautions:

Take only as directed by physician. To reduce gastric irritation, administer with meals, milk or a full glass of water. Dipyridamole is not appropriate for everyone, so be sure to talk to your doctor before you begin an aspirin regimen. Caution is advised when using this drug in the elderly since they may be more sensitive to the effects of this drug. This medication should be used only when clearly needed during the first 6 months of pregnancy.
