Indications:
Loperamide is used to treat symptoms of diarrhea. It is also used to lessen the amount of discharge from an ileostomy. It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.
How to take:
Loperamide is taken as directed by the doctor. It comes in a capsule form taken by mouth with or without food. For treatment of acute diarrhea. Loperamide is taken for only 2 days. For chronic diarrhea, treatment may continue as long as 10 days. While on loperamide, it is advised to drink plenty of water to replace lost fluids and prevent dehydration. Precautions:
Inform doctor if the patient has medical conditions such as allergies, liver problems, ulcerative colitis, and others. This drug can cause dizziness therefore do not engage in activities that require mental alertness such as driving. Avoid drinking alcoholic beverages while on loperamide because it may increase the effects of the drug. Also do not use this drug during pregnancy unless prescribed by the doctor.
