Ketoconazole

Ketoconazole is an anti-fungal medication in the same family of drugs as fluconazole, itraconazole, and miconazole. It prevents growth of several types of fungi by preventing production of the membranes that surround fungal cells.

Indications:

Ketoconazole is used in the treatment of infections caused by susceptible organisms particularly those of the urinary, respiratory, and GI tracts. It is also indicated for the treatment of systemic fungal infections such as candidiasis, chronic mucocutaneous candidiasis, oral thrush, candiduria, blastomycosis.

How to take:

Ketoconazole may be taken with or without food. The oral dose range is 200-400 mg daily. For more detailed information please see label and please consult specialist. Do not take more Ketoconazole than is indicated at the label without consulting a doctor.

Precautions:

Ketoconazole is generally well tolerated. It may cause signs and symptoms such as rash, itching, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, headache, dizziness, fatigue, and impotence. It is also known to rarely cause allergic reactions. The use of ketoconazole is avoided in nursing mothers as ketoconazole is secreted in breastmilk. If symptoms appear discontinue use of drug and report to the doctor immediately.
